HP Factory 2008 Mid-Atlantic Corvette Challenge

The 2008 Mid-Atlantic Corvette Challenge presented by Jeff Creech of HP Factory will be run under the rules and guidelines set forth by RDW and the IHRA. Richmond Dragway is an International Hot Rod Association, IHRA, track and we must first and foremost meet the safety requirements for IHRA. In addition, we will require all drivers, regardless of how quick or slow, to wear a helmet while on the track. Please click on the link below to go to the RDW web page.

Spectators $12

Basic Safety Rules

A helmet must be worn, period. Drivers must wear long pants and a shirt with sleeves (except where a fire jacket is required) when on the track. During the hot summer days many of us just wear shorts under gym pants and take off the gym pants between runs. Then we throw the gym pants on for the next run. Cars running faster than 11.50 seconds will require a rollbar and the driver to wear fire jacket. Convertibles must have a rollbar if they run faster than 13.50 seconds. (However if the convertible has a hardtop, it can run up to 11.50 without a rollbar. If you have a convertible, check out the hardtops from Smooth Line or Caravaggio. Additionally, if your car is required to have a rollbar, it is also required for the driver to wear a 3" wide 5-point safety harness. Keep in mind, we are a group of Corvette drivers having fun and the track has the right to impose the above rules verbatim for the safety of the participants. This paragraph is not intended to be a complete rules list but a guideline for those that are unfamiliar with drag racing rules. In addition, rules can be read on the race track web page at the link provided RDW The racing format will be side by side on a sportsman-tree, the car closest to their dial in wins the race. If you red light, or sleep at the line it very well may have an outcome on who wins the race.

The Rules:

  1. Must be IHRA legal for your ET and MPH.
  2. ALL RACERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR HELMETS FOR THIS EVENT, no exceptions regardless of how slow your ET or MPH. The helmet must be a minimum Snell K98 rated.
  3. Lane choice; driver agreement, coin flips or as track officials see fit.
  4. All aftermarket/OEM parts currently available will be allowed as long as they are for sale to the "general public" by January 15, 2008 (This includes all pulley's, water pumps, mass-airs, headers, air intakes, throttle bodies etc.) except were class rules prohibit them.
  5. Short belts or no belts will be allowed.
  6. Any octane "gasoline" will be permitted.
  7. All exhausts (or lack of) welcome
  8. Rain date as determined by the track
  9. We plan to run in the 1/4 mile
Note: If it's too cold, wet, etc for safety reasons...we/and or the Track reserve the right to run in the 1/8 mile or not at all.
  10. Concession stand will be open and cookouts are encouraged!
  11. No electrical hookups for rigs - they will need generators
  12. Rained Out/Cancelled Qualifying Session - If a qualifying session is rained out or cancelled, any runs that were made-up to that point will stand, even if that session happens to be the final qualifying session run prior to eliminations.
  13. Burnouts: All cars are permitted to perform burnouts in the designated areas only and only using water. We are allowed no backups.
  14. Bye Runs: Until the conclusion of the event, bye runs are determined by the track. Parking Procedures: There is assigned parking this year, I will put up a MAP to see it.

Tech Inspection

  1. Tech Inspection: All vehicles must pass Technical Inspection prior to competition. IHRA safety rules will be enforced in all classes as well as a working taillight and no mechanical flaws prior to competition. Please have the Tech Sheet completely filled out and waiver on reverse signed and safety equipment with you prior to coming through the inspection lanes
  2. The racing format will be handicapped start on a sportsman .500 tree.
  3. No electronics are allowed. Single stage line lock on non drive wheels only. Timed nitrous systems, pneumatic and electric shifters, transbrakes, and delay boxes are prohibited. Clutch operated cars only are allowed to run two steps. Shift lights are legal. Stutter boxes and "timed down track throttle stops" are prohibited.
  4. Any illegal electronic device must be deactivated or removed from the race vehicle at Tech Inspector discretion. Deep staging is allowed.
  5. Dial Ins: Dial Ins are to be displayed on the passenger side front windshield and passenger side window of the car in a clear format. It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that the dial in can be read from long distances and is clearly written between rounds. We will make every attempt to clarify your dial in but the ultimate responsibility is yours. Dial Ins will be displayed on scoreboards prior to your run - please verify accuracy of your dial in before pre-staging
  6. Any style rear, suspension, mounting locations, transmission, wheelie bars and tubs allowed.
  7. All exhausts (or lack of) welcome

10 points for entering and staging in each event Staging Points

  • A driver will be awarded 10 points for arriving at the event, passing tech and staging. Basically, if you show up, pass tech, and stage your car, you get 10 points, win or lose in the 1st round. • 10 points for each round won
  •   5 extra points for winning the event
  •   2 extra point for runner-up in the event
  •   1 extra point for the best R/T during eliminations.
  •   1 extra point for farthest traveled to race
  •   1 extra point for the best package during eliminations
  •   Note: A driver who buys back into the 1st round ($25) will earn round win points and WILL earn the extra point(s) if runner-up or winner
  •   Drivers that attend ALL of the season's events will be automatically awarded twenty (20) bonus points towards their season total.
