Dave Satterfiled Wins First Event of 2007

05/12/07 - Next race is scheduled for July 14th

Here is the lowdown on the 1st MACC race on May 12th!

By Steve Oyer

Even though it was Mothers' day Weekend, we worked with the track to get 4 dates, and this Saturday afternoon event was one of them.

It was a hot/humid day and rain was all around………..the DA was no better than +1300 all evening. With the threat of rain, the track went to 1/8 mile for all and just one test pass…it happens!…..just as we were going into the 1st round of eliminations………the rain came. After about a 45 minute delay and we were still lined up in the staging lanes for round 1! Dry off the water on the cars to keep it off the track And lets get it!

The Race

With 7 cars, Roger Claytor led the class during its single qualifier with a 6.3xs at 109+mph. Due to my R/T being the best during our practice run……I get the competition bye in the 1st round.

In the first round, Claytor broke out less in the double breakout over Satterfield with a 6.34 on a 6.37 vs. a 7.46 on a 7.50. McPeeks had near 2/10s advantage off the line to take out Woodberry who also ran under. Hudson snuck by with almost 3/10ths advantage off the line to get by Davis who also ran under.

I had the bye and didn't take myself out! All 3 bought back to have some more racing fun in the 2nd round; In the 2nd round, Oyer took out Hudson who was asleep at the tree for a change. Claytor ran a 6.35 on a 6.33 and took out Woodberry who red-light…. Satterfield has a nice .02 r/t and took out Davis who also had a nice .06 light but off his dial by 2/10ths. McPeeks had a bye this time due to his .015 r/t and ran a nice 6.41 on a 6.40.

In the Semis, Oyer raced a close, yet successful, round against Claytor. Both racers were nearly identical on the tree. With Oyer running a 7.37 on a 7.35 vs Claytor running out the back door with a 6.31 on a 6.35. McPeeks gave away his chance for the win against Satterfield when he left early by 1/10th off the starting line.

In the Finals, Satterfield had a quicker reaction time with a .075 to Oyer's slowest of the weekend .131. With both drivers off their dial by similar numbers it made for a close call at the stripe……….Satterfield won by less than ¼ of a 10th, or extrapolated out…….by 2.98 feet !!!
